His research primarily focuses on the surface and interface physical chemistry of functional materials, energy storage materials, and devices, as well as the application of synchrotron radiation. He has published over 480 papers in peer-reviewed journals. His publications has been cited more than 47,000 times, with an H-index of 108. From 2019 to 2024, he was consecutively recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics. He has served as principal investigator of many projects from multiple funding agencies, including National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key R&D Program of China and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has been invited to deliver more than 140 plenary, keynote, and invited talks at international and domestic conferences and academic institutions, and organized three international conferences and one domestic conference.
At the Hefei Light Source, he has established various in-situ synchrotron radiation research methods and built up two well-performed endstations, i.e., Catalysis and Surface Science and Photoelectron Spectroscopy stations. In Hefei Advanced Light Facility (HALF) project, he has initiated the design and construction of the High-Throughput In-Situ Operando Medium-Energy In-Situ Spectroscopy beamline.
